Tours That Talk™ is the natural outgrowth of a Taylannas product called Menus That Talk™, an audio tablet designed for the food and hospitality industry. The core technology is Audio On Demand which means guests hear what they want, when they want. The restaurant version came about in response to a young visually handicapped woman’s needs. The kernel is Voice.
CEO Susan Perry originated the idea for a talking menu having lunch with her 23 year-old niece. The girl’s advanced macular degeneration prevented her from reading at almost any range, so she asked to have the menu read to her. Susan had forgotten her reading glasses and the moment highlighted a need for an audio solution. She consulted with colleague Richard Herbst, an electronically savvy designer, and following rounds of design conferences, a talking restaurant menu was produced from scratch between 2006 and 2007.
